[ARCHIVED] City Council Celebrates the New State of the Art Playground at Lowell Brandt Park

Lowell Brandt Park

LA VERNE, CA – The City of La Verne proudly announces the opening of the newly installed playground at Lowell Brandt Park, marking a significant milestone in the City's commitment to providing safe and accessible recreational spaces for all its residents. This project, initiated as part of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal year 2019-2020 and funded through Park Development Funds, addresses the critical need for the replacement of outdated playground equipment.

The previous playground equipment, discontinued almost 25 years ago, no longer met safety standards due to broken slides, inadequately high wall barriers, and insufficient safety surfacing, leading to its closure. In response, the City of La Verne secured an additional appropriation of $171,700 from the Capital Improvement Fund Reserve to ensure the park's renovation. The City installed a unique and engaging play structure designed to meet the current safety and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, catering to children aged 5-12. This innovative playground features accessible bridges and a variety of activities, all set on a safe, rubberized pour-in-place surface.

Mayor Tim Hepburn, expressing enthusiasm for the project's completion, stated, "The opening of the new playground at Lowell Brandt Park is a testament to La Verne's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for our families and children. We are committed to providing our community with safe, inclusive, and fun environments where children can play, grow, and thrive."

Director of Community Services Yvonne Duran emphasized the playground's importance, saying, "Ensuring accessibility and safety for all children was paramount in the design of this playground. We are proud to have created a space that all members of our community can enjoy, fostering an inclusive environment where children of all abilities can play together."

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, thanks to the dedication of our staff and partners, the playground opens to the public. The City invites families and children to come and enjoy the new facility, promising countless hours of joy and play for years to come.
