Goldspotted Oak Borer Infestation

The City has been nGOLD SPOTTED OAK BORER with landscaping in the backgroundotified by Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Agricultural Commissioner of a heavy infestation of the Gold Spotted Oak Borer (GSOB), a pest that infests oak trees and can ultimately lead to their death. While the pest can move naturally from tree to tree, the primary way it spreads is through the transportation of infected wood. Residents are strongly urged not to move firewood from one area to another.

In the spring and summer months of 2026, County crews will be working in and around Marshall Canyon to remove dead and dying trees, which pose a fire hazard, and to treat affected oaks. Treatment methods include tree injections for early infestations and bark applications for more advanced cases. Visitors are asked to be mindful of ongoing work in the area. To learn more, visit the LA County Trails website for trail closure details.

If you suspect an oak tree on your property may be infected, please call (951) 659-8328 or search “GSOB LA County” online for additional information and resources. As more information from the County is provided, we will make sure to update our residents!

Our oak trees are an important part of La Verne’s natural environment and character. Thank you for doing your part to help protect them.
