City of La Verne Unveils New Inclusive Playground at Oak Mesa Park

News & Announcements Posted on November 24, 2025

The City of La Verne proudly celebrated the grand re-opening of the Oak Mesa Park Playground on Monday, November 24, 2025, unveiling a fully inclusive, ADA-compliant play space designed for children of all abilities. The event brought together members of the La Verne City Council; representatives from the Bonita Unified School District and the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District; representatives from Assemblymember Harabedian’s office; and key City staff from the Parks and Recreation and Public Works departments, who played a major role in coordinating the planning, design, and construction of the new playground.

“This playground represents more than a new place to play, it reflects our commitment to making thoughtful, long-term investments in La Verne’s future,” said Mayor Tim Hepburn. “By prioritizing safe, inclusive, and high-quality public spaces, we strengthen our neighborhoods, support our families, and ensure that the next generation grows up with opportunities to thrive.”

The new playground replaces the park’s 28-year-old structure, which no longer met modern safety or accessibility requirements. Purpose-built for children ages 5 to 12, the upgraded play area includes rubberized surfacing, integrated shade structures, accessible bridges, and interactive elements that support imaginative, inclusive, and active play.

The project was fully funded through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District using Measure A funds, demonstrating the continued impact of regional investments in improving neighborhood parks and recreational amenities.

Families are encouraged to visit Oak Mesa Park to enjoy the new playground and experience a welcoming, accessible space designed for all children. For more information, please contact Parks & Recreation Director Yvonne Duran at yduran@laverneca.gov
