LA VERNE, CA – The City of La Verne proudly announces the completion of significant improvements to the Aquatic Center at Las Flores Park, marking a major milestone in the ongoing enhancement of this beloved community space. The revitalized Aquatic Center now features new decking around the pool, state-of-the-art shade structures, replastering of the pool, an updated pool lighting system, and new pool equipment, ensuring a modern and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Mayor Tim Hepburn emphasized the Aquatic Center's vital role in the community, stating, "The enhancements to our Aquatic Center are not just about providing a better swimming experience; they are about bringing people together. This facility is a cornerstone for fostering partnerships with the University of La Verne and Bonita High School, offering a space where students, families, and residents can connect, compete, and create lasting memories."
The undertaking of this project was a collaborative effort, with funding provided by key stakeholders. A portion of the funding came from a generous $1.5 million appropriation by Assemblymember Chris Holden, which the City of La Verne received at the October 16, 2023, City Council Meeting for Las Flores Park improvements. This funding includes upgrades to the southern playground and the development of a new restroom facility at Las Flores Park, both of which are underway and set to be completed by mid-2025. Additionally, the Bonita Unified School District and the University of La Verne, both of which have a joint use agreement for the Aquatic Center, also contributed funds to the project.
Assemblymember Chris Holden also highlighted the broader significance of such investments, noting, "Investments in local amenities like the Aquatic Center are investments in the well-being and cohesion of our community. These projects enhance our quality of life, encourage active lifestyles, and reinforce the importance of communal spaces where everyone can gather and grow."
The grand re-opening ceremony occurred on June 24, 2024, just in time for summer recreation activities. Check out our Summer Recreation Guide to see the numerous classes and programs the Community Services Department has to offer at the Aquatic Center.
